A notice about Fading/Light Damage

At Ridanco, with our main product range mostly being used for display of valuable collectables, often using UV Protective acrylic which we source and test, we feel it is important for us to offer advice, and set expectation regarding light-damage and risk of fading.

UV (ultra-violet) light is the most damaging type of light, and it should not be underestimated just how quickly direct UV light, such as sunlight, can fade printed colour. In extreme circumstances, this can happen over a matter of days. Indirect exposure to UV light is much less concerning, but the accumulated long term effects of just a little exposure will still add up over time. Fortunately, the effect and speed of fading can be greatly reduced by using highly UV protective acrylic which we offer for all sizes of frame.

We have a light transmission testing device which we regularly use to test batches of our acrylic sheet products to ensure our stock is correct as per our supplier's claims. We are pleased to say that our tool has been proven very accurate, and we have UV protective sheets which are up to 99.9% protective against almost all UV wavelengths (excluding some higher less damaging wavelengths, such as those at 360nm+). We will make every effort to list the exact tested UV protection percentage of the applicable sheet per listing in line with our website terms of listing accuracy.

Despite our UV protective sheets being tested and reliable (with testing evidence available on request), they are not sold with any guarantee nor warranty of absolute protection. We would advise customers to do their own research and consider the location and lighting conditions thoroughly before displaying any collectibles over the long term. Furthermore, we can recommend protective window films be added to any rooms featuring valuable collections. UV light is also not the only type of damaging light, and there is much evidence in the framing and display industry of artwork fading over long term display, therefore the best methods include installing drapes or keeping rooms dark by other means while displays are not being viewed/enjoyed.

Customers are welcome to contact us at any time for advice or test results of specific sheet products.
